Little-known Slovenia surprised everyone during the qualifiers by finishing 2nd in their group, level with Denmark who finished top. The Slovenians only lost 2 games (2-1 to Denmark and 2-0 to Finland). Matjak Kek's men have therefore racked up 7 wins and one draw. These results show just how far Slovenia is progressing on the international stage.

In fact, 2024 marks a comeback for the country, which last took part in the Euro in 2000. The team also won other matches: against Kazakhstan (2-1) and the United States (0-1). Slovenia also beat Portugal (2-0), but not Malta. During the preparatory matches, Slovenia won against Armenia, but not against Bulgaria. So there is still a balance to be found, and Slovenia did just that with a draw against Denmark on Sunday, despite the fact that Denmark are reputed to be stronger.

Little-known Serbia are clearly not to be overlooked. They took part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and in 3 of the last 4 World Cups. This will be Serbia's first appearance at the Euros since the break-up of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. The team has never progressed beyond the Round of 8, and failed to win a match in the group stages. The team is known for being more rugged than playful, which is a shame, as they have some talent to show for it.

Be that as it may, Serbia's record so far has been less than convincing. The team lost to Belgium (1-0) in a friendly, and to Bulgaria (2-2) and Russia (4-0) in March. A single victory over Cyprus was not enough to make up for these difficulties (0-1). At the beginning of June, the Serbs lost again against Austria, but not against Sweden, whom they largely dominated (0-3). This Sunday, Serbia lost to England, who are admittedly one of the favourites for this tournament.

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

Slovenia will have to work hard on the pitch to put the pressure on Serbia, who are a more accomplished team. The match has every chance of being very dynamic, but Serbia should remain in control of the game. A draw looks interesting, with odds of 3.60.

Semi-finalists at the last UEFA European Championship in England, Denmark are an impressive team, but they disappointed at the last World Cup in Qatar. The country did not even make it out of the group stages. The Danes have been European champions just once before, in 1992. At Euro 2024, the red and whites finished top of their group, despite losing to Kazakhstan (3-2) and Northern Ireland (2-0).

In friendly matches, the Danes failed to get past the Swiss play-offs (0-0), but they did get past the Faroe Islands (2-0). Denmark remain a very well-prepared team for this Euro: they beat Sweden (2-1) and then Norway (3-1). On Sunday, Denmark also failed to overcome tiny Slovenia (1-1).

At the previous European Championship, England had a great opportunity to win their first title. But that was without counting on the pressure put on by Italy and the memorable penalty shoot-out. Two years later, at the World Cup in Qatar, the Three Lions were unable to realise their hopes either, and were knocked out in the quarter-finals by France (1-2). But that hasn't stopped the English from once again being favourites for Euro 2024.

In fact, they didn't concede a single goal during their campaign: 6 wins and 2 draws. They finished top of their group, ahead of Italy and Ukraine. In March 2024, however, the English had a scare against Brazil (0-1), while they were beaten by Belgium (2-2). In friendlies, they also beat Bosnia-Herzegovina (3-0), but lost to Iceland (0-1). This Sunday, England managed to win against Serbia, but without any sparkle (1-0).

⚽ Statistics and key information

Recent encounters (last 5 matches)

  • England vs Denmark (07/07/2021): 2-1
  • England vs Denmark (06/09/2022): 0-1
  • Denmark vs England (08/09/2020): 0-0
  • England vs Denmark (05/03/2014): 1-0
  • Denmark vs England (09/02/2011): 1-2

Goals for/against (last 10 matches)

  • Denmark: 16/6
  • England: 16/6

Key players

  • Denmark: Kasper Schmeichel (goalkeeper, Anderlecht), Christian Eriksen (midfielder, Manchester United), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (midfielder, Tottenham Hotspur).
  • England: Phil Foden (forward, Manchester City), Kyle Walker (defender, Manchester City), Jude Bellingham (midfielder, Real Madrid).

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

Despite their status as favourites, England have failed to reassure in the build-up, particularly with their shock 1-0 defeat by Iceland. The Danes are always aggressive and they will do everything in their power to stop the Three Lions in their tracks. So we're expecting a scoreline of just one goal difference. Perhaps 'Total number of goals: Over 2.5' with odds of 2.14 is a smart move.

Spain have always been a big force at the Euros. And let's not forget that it is still the author of a historic treble in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010. But those days are gone, and since then Spain has been trying to regain its place on the international stage. Despite this, La Roja won the Nations League against Croatia in June 2023.

Spain won 7 of their 8 games in the qualifying phase for this European Championship, topping their group ahead of Scotland and Norway. They scored 25 goals for every 5 conceded. That said, the Spanish were unconvincing against Colombia (0-1) and Brazil (3-3). Spain made a fine start to Euro 2024 by beating Croatia 3-0.

Winners of Euro 2020, Italy are putting their title on the line again. The big favourites? Yes and no, because let's not forget that the Italians missed out on a second World Cup. Italy therefore need to get back to their best, thanks in particular to new coach Spalletti, who was appointed following their 3rd place finish in the Nations League. During the qualifiers, the Squadra Azzurra were dominated by the English and finished 2nd in their group, 6 points behind.

And it could have been worse, as Italy also had a scare against Ukraine. In March, Italy beat Venezuela (2-1) and Ecuador (0-2). But they underperformed with a draw against Turkey (0-0) and a lacklustre postponement of the match against Bosnia-Herzegovina (1-0). Logically, the Azzurri won their first match at this EURO against Albania. But that's only to be expected. The match against Spain will be decisive.

⚽ Statistics and key information

Recent encounters (last 5 matches)

  • Spain vs Italy (15/06/2023): 2-1
  • Italy vs Spain (06/09/2022): 1-2
  • Italy vs Spain (06/07/2021): 1-1
  • Spain vs Italy (02/09/2017): 3-0
  • Italy vs Spain (06/10/2016): 1-1

Goals for/against (last 10 matches)

  • Spain: 31/7
  • Italy: 19/8

Key players

  • Spain: Dani Carvajal (defender, Real Madrid), Pedri (midfielder, Barcelona), Lamine Yamal (forward, Barcelona).
  • Italy: Gianluigi Donnarumma (goalkeeper, Paris Saint-Germain), Nicolò Barella (midfielder, Inter Milan), Gianluca Scamacca (forward, Atalanta).

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

This clash of the titans should see Spain come out on top. La Roja have been going through a period of crisis for several years, but they can count on some talented young recruits, particularly in midfield. Of course, Italy will not allow themselves to be dictated to without a fightback. But although the match will certainly be very intense, Spain should nevertheless come out on top. Try this: 'Spain wins after falling behind: Yes' with odds of 10.64!
