EURO 2024: Team of the tournament

EURO 2024 is over. Spain takes the coveted European Championship trophy for the fourth time in its history. We list the best players of the 2024 European Championship. The Spaniards are the big gobblers, taking a whopping four spots, although that will come as no surprise after this exceptional tournament. Goalkeeper of the tournament EURO 2024 - Giorgi Mamardashvili (Georgia)

Georgia made an immediate impression with its first-ever participation in a major tournament. One of the best number three teams, they unexpectedly made it to the knockout stage. Who would have dared to place a bet on that? They owed that outstanding performance mainly to their rock-solid goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Valencia goalkeeper packed in with no fewer than 30 saves on 38 shots on goal. No other goalkeeper even comes close to this amazing statistic. With his 21 saves in the group stage alone, he even set a new record. This earns his spot as goalkeeper of the EURO 2024 tournament.

The defenders of EURO 2024

Many teams played this tournament in a 4-3-3 formation. We are keeping this for our team of the EURO 2024 tournament as well. Our four defenders are an international bunch.

Right back - Joshua Kimmich (Germany)

National coach Julian Nagelsmann allowed only two field players to play every minute of EURO 2024. Joshua Kimmich was one of them, and that choice proved entirely justified in hindsight. Indeed, Kimmich played a fantastic tournament as Die Mannschaft's right-back.

He emerged as one of the most decisive playmakers of the EURO 2024 and was involved in no fewer than 15 direct attacks, from which two assists also emerged.

Central defender - Marc Guéhi (England)

The 24-year-old defender really did put himself in the spotlight at EURO 2024. At Crystal Palace, he showed fine things earlier this season and during this tournament he emerged as one of England's star players. He won more aerial duels during the tournament than any other Englishman. With no fewer than 44 ball recoveries at this European Championship, he only has to beat his teammate Declan Rice.

Central defender - William Saliba (France)

France did not have the best tournament, but William Saliba was one of the bright spots for Les Bleus. Thanks in part to him, France was able to keep a clean sheet no less than four times, something no other team could match at this European Championship.

In the decisive semi-final against Spain, he was once again the rock for the French. Despite the painful loss, he was even one of the few players to get a positive assessment from the particularly critical L'Equipe.

Left back - Marc Cucurella (Spain)

Luis de la Fuente put his trust in Marc Cucurella during the 2024 European Championship and that was a striking choice to say the least. Yet he gave everyone a licking, as the Chelsea left-back impressed almost immediately with the Spanish national team.

Defensively, he stood his ground with both most tackles and most interceptions for Spain. He was also vital in attack during EURO 2024. Only Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo created more chances than him. Moreover, he gave the most important assist of the entire EC to Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored the winning goal in the final against England. We will see a lot of these players in the upcoming Champions League.

EURO 2024 midfield: three top players selected

EURO 2024 was not known for big results. We therefore chose players with a rather defensive mentality in our EURO 2024 midfield. Consequently, football betting fans had their fill.

Defensive midfielder - Rodri (Spain)

UEFA named Rodri as Euro 2024's Player of the Tournament . The 28-year-old Manchester City midfielder now sees two uneven seasons at club level also rewarded with the highest attainable on the European stage. He played a crucial role in Spain's road to the final. He was the heart of midfield and once again showed himself indispensable to the team.

Attacking midfielder - Arda Güler (Turkey)

Anyone still wondering why Real Madrid had around €20 million to spare for Arda Güler last year will most likely know the answer after this European Championship. Turkey's golden boy played a crucial role within the team as a 19-year-old, especially in the eighth final against Austria. He handed out a total of two important assists.

Defensive midfielder - N'Golo Kante (France)

Hardly anyone would have dared to predict this beforehand, but N'Golo Kante was indeed one of France's best players at this European Championship 2024. The former Chelsea hoover showed that he is not yet worn out and showed himself particularly diligent in the French midfield. He even managed to win no less than two Man of the Match trophies for his performances against Austria and the Netherlands.

As mentioned, there were few big results, but there were some wonderful goals to enjoy. Our selection of attackers from the EURO 2024 was therefore mouth-watering.

Right winger - Lamine Yamal (Spain)

The EURO 2024 discovery was undoubtedly Lamine Yamal. Spain's teenager was named Best Young Player of the Tournament, which was of course no surprise. With his peerless goal against France, he made history as the youngest player ever to score a goal at a European Championship.

He created no less than 19 chances, the most number of anyone at the European Championship 24 and what's more, no teenager ever did it for him at a World Cup or European Championship. We bet the very young Yamal has a very bright future ahead of him.

Striker - Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)

EURO 2024 will not go down as an edition in which strikers made the nice weather. Indeed, quite a few big names disappointed, but Cody Gakpo did make a positive mark. With three goals, he is co-top marksman of the tournament and with an assist behind his name as well, he was thus directly involved in four goals. Moreover, Gakpo also signed for the most number of shots, the most number of shots on goal and the most number of chances created within the Dutch squad.

Left winger - Dani Olmo (Spain)

Dani Olmo only started in three of the seven games as a title holder for Spain, yet he cannot be left out of this team of the tournament. With three goals, two assists and 14 dribbles, he was golden for Spain. Moreover, he also became top scorer of the tournament, although he has to share that award with five other players.

With so many great memories, we are already looking forward to the new football season and we bet we will be able to enjoy a lot of spectacle again!
