Netherlands vs Austria

So far, the Netherlands managed to gather 4 points: our neighbours from the north defeated Poland 1-2 in their first match, and held off France in a hard-fought 0-0. That actually puts them in first place in their Group D. A draw is always enough to qualify for the next round in this current situation. Of course, the Netherlands will want to win for the most favourable round of 16 draw.

It’s been seven games since Oranje have conceded a goal. It’s clear to see why: with Virgil van Dijk en Nathan Aké, the Netherlands has a first-rate defense. Goalie Bart Verbruggen, too, has proven that he can cope with the pressure at this level, despite his tender age of 21. Offensively, Xavi Simons will look to score for real, after his goal against France was disallowed in a referee decision that was hard to swallow for the Dutch.

Austria currently occupies the third place in Group D. The Austrians suffered a narrow 0-1 at the hands of France, but rebounded with a resounding 1-3 victory over Poland. If they beat the Netherlands here, then their spot in the knockout rounds is safe, but any other scenario involves some football math. It’s clear that Austria will aim for victory: the confidence is there.

Austria’s attacking midfielder Christoph Baumgartner has scored 6 times in his 7 most recent games for this country. His performance against Poland, including a goal in minute 66, earned him the “Man of the Match” title. Another inspiring effort will be crucial to edge out a victory in this last hurdle, though.

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

This is promising to be an encounter between two teams that are fairly equal. Austria is truly capable of hurting the Dutch, especially if they take this match for granted. What's more, Austria need a win to qualify without batting an eyelid. Tip: a 1x2 bet on an Austrian victory is worth a shot at odds of 3.33.

France vs Poland

Since long before the start of the tournament, France has been tipped as one of the clear favourites for the title of 2024 European Champion. That would make it the second trophy for the French, after current head coach Didier Dechamps won EURO 2000 as captain of les Bleus. Under his guidance, France has become “incontournable” in big tournaments.

N'Golo Kanté’s inclusion in the French selection raised many questions, but leave it to the midfield maestro himself to answer with commendable performances on the pitch. His tireless work against the Netherlands made him “Man of the Match”. Any breakthrough against Poland will definitely have his signature on it. Still no word on whether or not he will be joined by Kylian Mbappé, who broke his nose against Austria...

Poland certainly will be keeping its fingers crossed against the odds of Mbappé appearing on the pitch. After losing to both the Netherlands (1-2) and Austria (1-3), Poland is already eliminated. EURO 2024 is Poland’s fifth consecutive tournament, but only once did they manage to make it past the group stage. Better luck next time?

The Poles will fight for all they’re worth in order to leave the tournament with their heads held high. It remains to be seen if they can do that with a victory against a French squad that needs 3 points to top its Group D. That seems to make a Polish victory equally unlikely as admirable as ultimately to no avail. On the bright side: striker Robert Lewandowski is reported to be fit to play.

  • France vs Poland (23/02/2000): 1-0
  • France vs Poland (16/08/1995): 1-1

Goals for/against (last 10 matches)

  • France: 29/8
  • Poland: 18/10

  • Poland: Robert Lewandowski (forward, Barcelona), Wojciech Szczesny (goalkeeper, Juventus), Piotr Zielinski (midfielder, Napoli).

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

France has a few things to set right after the mediocre performance against the Dutch. Les Bleus lacked the efficiency to secure their round of 16 ticket, so they’ll be doubly motivated here. With Kylian Mbappé still unsure to play, France has to look elsewhere for goals. A bet on Antoine Griezmann to score anytime could prove valuable, with odds of 2.57.

England vs Slovenia

Long before the start of the tournament, England was marked as one of the favourites. Indeed, the English are infamously eager to “bring football home”, as they say. The last time around, they came extremely close, losing the final of EURO 2020 to Italy after a penalty shootout, and now they’re back with a vengeance.

England boasts an impressive line-up that makes football fans around the world water at the mouth (Foden, Kane, Saka, Bellingham, Rice, Stones, Walker – need we say more?). The English EURO 2024 campaign hasn’t been a walk in the park, though. England narrowly beat Serbia in its first group phase game, but drew against Denmark in its second. Can the English confirm against Slovenia and grab their ticket to the round of 16?

Admittedly, calling Slovenia the weakest link in Group C is a little harsh, especially given the fact that the Slovenes have performed admirably so far: 2 draws against strong opponents. They held both Denmark and Serbia at bay: 1-1 in both games. Not bad for a team of which the average football fan can only name the goalie (Jan Oblak)!

Slovenia still has a shot at making it to the knockouts. In fact, the Slovenes can win their Group C if they beat England and if Denmark loses to Serbia. That may be a few ifs too many, but it goes to show that Slovenia could very well confirm its revelation status in style. At the same time, it has to be said that this group has a lot of moving parts, so anything could happen…

⚽ Statistics and key information

Recent fixtures (last 5 matches)

  • England vs Slovenia (05/10/2017): 1-0
  • Slovenia vs England (11/10/2016): 0-0
  • Slovenia vs England (14/06/2015): 2-3
  • England vs Slovenia (15/11/2014): 3-1
  • Slovenia vs England (23/06/2010): 0-1

Goals for/against (last 10 matches)

  • England: 16/7
  • Slovenia: 16/8

Key players

  • England: Phil Foden (forward, Manchester City), Kyle Walker (defender, Manchester City), Jude Bellingham (midfielder, Real Madrid).
  • Slovenia: Jan Oblak (goalkeeper, Atlético Madrid), Sandi Lovrić (midfielder, Udinese), Benjamin Šeško (forward, RB Leipzig).

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

England hasn’t clinched its qualification yet. It’s just a slip-up away from finishing 3rd in its group. Southgate’s squad has its limitations, but it cannot lose this match. It’ll be up to Harry Kane to show why he wears the captain’s band, especially against this brave but lesse opponent. An interesting Bet Builder option is a bet on England to win and Kane to score at odds of 2.20.

Denmark vs Serbia

Denmark as a nation knows what it is to win the European football championship, though few of the current players were even born yet when that happened, back in 1992. This current generation still takes inspiration from that stunt, though. Since then, Denmark has become somewhat of a tournament hallmark, appearing now for the 6th time since then.

As far as their record in this edition, the Danes have played 2 draws: 1-1 against Slovenia in their first game, and again 1-1 against England, more recently. From the first game, we can remember Christian Eriksen’s goal as a source of Danish daydreaming. Their draw against England was even more remarkable, given the sheer imposing talent that England can put on the pitch against a Danish outfit that has the rely on pluck, more than anything.

Serbia is clearly the dark horse in the very open Group C, and this is all the more the case now that everything is so close. Is the stage set for Serbia to commit the holdup of the EURO 2024 tournament? It could very well be the case, but to pull that off, the Serbs will need to make short work of Denmark here. That could really go either way here.

The only way forward for Serbia is a resounding victory, as anything less would need to much banking on results elsewhere. Serbia has only scored once so far, so striker Dušan Vlahović knows what his mission will be here. If the Serbs continue to grow in the tournament, they have a fighting chance at playing a fourth game in this EURO 2024.

⚽ Statistics and key information

Recent fixtures (last 3 matches)

  • Denmark vs Serbia (29/03/2022): 3-0
  • Denmark vs Serbia (13/06/2015): 2-0
  • Serbia vs Denmark (14/11/2014): 1-3

Goals for/against (last 10 matches)

  • Denmark: 16/8
  • Serbia: 14/14

Key players

  • Denmark: Kasper Schmeichel (goalkeeper, Anderlecht), Christian Eriksen (midfielder, Manchester United), Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (midfielder, Tottenham Hotspur).
  • Serbia: Sergej Milinković-Savić (midfielder, Al-Hilal), Dušan Tadić (midfielder, Fenerbahçe), Dušan Vlahović (forward, Juventus).

⚽ Conclusion and betting tips

Group C hasn't produced many goals since the start of the competition, but Denmark are playing some good football, while Serbia keeps trying its luck. Both teams need to win to guarantee qualification, but a 2-1 win for Denmark seems plausible. Tip: ‘1x2: Denmark & Total goals: Over 2.5’ has juicy odds of 3.25.
